The best way to get started... is to start...
Apr 05, 2016Every few weeks, a potential biz builder asks us, "How did you get started?"
What they mean by that is this: How did your wife get started?
You see, I wasn't involved with the biz at all- until my wife hit Gold. In fact, I've told people in several venues- from the stage- that my reaction to her when she hit Silver was less than stellar...
She waited all day to tell me. Really. I still remember it.
I got home from work, she gave me time to put my things down, and then said, "I hit Silver!"
She was beaming :-)
My reaction was... well... LESS THAN STELLAR...
I actually shrugged my shoulders and said, "Hmm... that's nice..."
You see, I had NO IDEA how hard she'd been working, how great she was at "closing" the class (I'll send you some info about that in a few days), and HOW FAR this thing would actually take us over the new few months
That said, here's the best way to start _______________.
Anyway, when people ask, "How did you get started?" the answer is always something related to, "Cristy began hosting classes and getting the word out... she began 'selling' kits."
(You may remember the post on this site about Chik-fil-A- and how they don't wait for new business builders to come to them BEFORE they open for business... they start marketing to and serving CUSTOMERS... then, eventually, some of those CUSTOMERS BECOME BUSINESS BUILDERS.)
Again, here's my point: the best way to get started is NOT by looking for business builders. The best way to get started is by hosting classes.
Again: the best way to get started in the biz... is classes.
(Now, I know... there are people who have built juggernaut businesses on Instagram. And on Facebook. And on other social media platforms alone. Fabulous. They are the exception to the rule. And, unless you have the platform they have... the best way... is to simply start talking about the products you have with the people you know... (and, yes, by all means, LEARN, LEARN, LEARN from these people who know a TON about how the social media world works... they will definitely enhance your biz with their wisdom...)
That's right. Get the products in front of as many people as you can- in as short amount of time as possible.
Now, don't think "class" as in lecture or anything remotely like you experience in high school or college- as much fun as those things might have been. Think of a class as a fun, interactive experience where you get to share with others something that you've come to love, something that's benefited you greatly! That mental shift will make a HUGE difference in how you approach things.
In this short clip from the Overflow workshop, we talk about the goal of classes: to get the kit in people's hands and help them start the journey of health + wellness.
If you stay "goal focused" (educate people + help them start their journey), then the definition of classes can get more ambigious. Really, we teach that you can do a class any way that accomplishes the goal of getting the kit(s) in people's hands and helps start them on the journey of walking in health and wholeness.
That means...
- you can do classes "live"
- you can use a video
- you can read the script
- you can do them one-to-one
- you can do them online.
In The Field Guide to the Comp Plan I even write about "speed oiling" classes (think "speed dating" but with the oils instead!). The possibilities are endless, but the goal is the same: show people the products and help them start their journey.
Ahh....
While you're at it...
Classes are a great way to knock out number 1 AND number 2 of the three things that grow you biz (and, as you continue hosting them and training your emerging leaders to teach in their own venues, classes also become a great opportunity for #3)...
