Noah's 2nd ramp // Leaders don't create "forever followers"- they create other leaders

So, here we go... the second and final in Noah's video series on the skateboard ramps. In this video, he takes it to the next level.

He actually gets his brothers involved. Whereas they were really "cheerleaders" and "holders" in the first run, on this ramp he's actually shown them how to use the power tools.

In fact, you'll see him doing most of the plotting and planning- and they'll do most of the work. He's at a new level of leadership in this one. His sequence has worked something like this...

  • The first level of leadership is this: I'll do it, you watch. (Pretty much what he did in the first ramp video.)
  • The next level... you do, I'll watch (this one).
  • The third level... you do it on your own... I've now empowered you (what everyone is now ready to do.)

There's a myth floating around that the best leaders are the ones with the most followers. Let me submit a slight twist to this: the best leaders are the ones with the most followers they've converted to leading!

I'm proud of what Noah has been learning as he's built his ramps. You see, leadership isn't about creating "forever followers"; it's about investing in others such that they become leaders and creators on their own, reaching their full potential.

I guess the third video, if we had one (we don't yet) should be one of his brothers building their own ramp, with Noah behind the camera :-)
